Cathryn Riley, former group CIO turned COO at Aviva, has been appointed to the board of International Personal Finance (IPF) as an independent non-executive director.

IPF, a home credit business serving mainly Eastern Europe-based customers, hopes to benefit from Riley's extensive experience of IT transformation.

"She brings a wealth of experience in major IT transformation programmes and implementing new distribution channels and will further strengthen the IPF board," said IPF chairman Christopher Rodrigues.

Riley spent 17 years at Aviva, where she was group chief operating officer (COO) until October last year - featuring highly in the 2013 edition of the CIO 100. Prior to this role, she was in a number of senior positions at the insurer, including a year as group CIO and a year as UK commercial director.

She was IT and businesses services director, COO and customer experience director of Aviva's UK Life business between 2005 and 2010, prior to which she was at Aviva's UK General Insurance business. Riley joined Aviva after three years at BUPA, where she was a general manager.

Her other non-executive director positions include the board of Equitable Life since 2009.

The appointment to the IPF board takes effect today.
