John Lee is joining The London Metal Exchange (LME) as a board level CTO it has been announced today. Lee left NYSE Euronext in December 2014 having been with the financial exchange since March 2009.

The London Metal Exchange is a futures market for all metals and is the largest in the world.

Lee has a heritage in exchange based financial services organisations, he was CIO of PayPoint  from 2005 to 2008 and managed three major merger integrations. Lee also managed the integrations ICE’s acquisition of NYSE Euronext.

In a statement chief executive of the LME Garry Jones said: “He brings with him unrivalled technology and exchange leadership experience, with a history of delivering complex systems and change projects – making him the ideal leader for our technology team as we invest in and develop our IT products and services.”

Lee will be on the executive committee of the LME and begins his role on January 26. He replaces Robin Paine a CTO at LME who joined the LME in June 2013 from Old Mutual. Lee began his career as a helicopter engineer with British aircraft specialists Hawker Sidley.
