Parcels and logistics company UK Mail has appointed Tony Smollett as its new group IT director.

Smollett brings 28 years of experience from working at companies including Halfords, Homebase, Boots, Mars and IBM.

He joins UK Mail from Albemarle and Bond Holdings, the pawnbroking, money lending and jewellery company, where he was head of IT and took responsibility for all strategic and operational aspects of IT.

UK Mail said Smollett's past successful projects included successfully implementing a new distribution centre, a new data centre, multiple ecommerce operations, and upgraded core systems over an 18-month period at Halfords.

Smollett's work at Halfords also included putting systems in place that would halve application testing times, ready for them to work with Halford's core SAP business system.

"The group IT director role at UK Mail will see Tony lead the IT team as UK Mail seeks to use technology to differentiate itself in the marketplace," said UK Mail.

Guy Buswell, UK Mail CEO, said: "UK Mail is a fast moving dynamic company and with the right people in place we can continue to grow the business."
