Former Walmart CIO Fumbi Chima is heading to the UK to become CIO of fashion house Burberry, replacing John Douglas who has led technology since 2006 at the UK brand.

Chima has been with Walmart in various roles since 2010 and is currently CIO for Walmart Asia.

Burberry announced that Chima will be reporting to Chief Operating Officer, John Smith. The role oversees Burberry's technology division that is central to the company's strategic development. Fumbi will oversee the forthcoming technology platform upgrades including SAP.

At Walmart Asia Fumbi was Corporate VP & CIO for Walmart Asia and was responsible for aligning the e-commerce strategies with technologies solutions in the region. She has extensive experience in the technology arena having held IT and technology positions at AMEX and JP Morgan.

Fumbi was also recently selected as a member of the United Nations Digital taskforce, working to address the digital economy in Asia. She serves on the board of the World Affairs Council and is a member of the International Women's Forum and the Executive Leadership Council (ELC).

Burberry CEO Christopher Bailey said: "The combination of Fumbi's IT and digital expertise, together with her great dynamism and strong leadership skills, will be a fantastic benefit to our team and business."

Fumbi began her technology leadership career with PwC.

In 2009 Burberry reported that its SAP integration saved the organisation, famous for its macs and bags £50 million through process improvements. Burberry described its SAP strategy as one that would deliver "long tail" benefits over many years.
