Land Rover and Jaguar

Jaguar Land Rover, the luxury car maker that is part of the Tata empire, joined the grid of companies selecting the Google Apps collaboration technology this year.

The move follows similar big deals by services company Rentokil Initial, car parts maker Valeo and media companies such as the publishers of the Guardian and Telegraph newspapers.

Jaguar Land Rover has taken a licence for 15,000 seats of the email and collaboration technology following what the CIO Jeremy Vincent calls a "conversion " to cloud computing from a position of little knowledge. The company has also done a deal with Sony to use its high definition projection technology for creating 3D images of its cars during the design process. Visualising designs in 3D will speed up the design process and get new cars to market more rapidly.

The midlands based manufacturer has also agreed terms with Aterian the web content management software specialist so that marketing and communications departments have full control over the content on the Jaguar and Land Rover web sites.
