Harrods has implemented the Microsoft SharePoint 2010 collaboration platform in a bid to improve processes and support its intranet and extranet.
The Knightsbridge department store said it wanted to improve communication between its 8,000 full and part-time staff. The system will support a range of functionality including news and updates - which can be read and altered on its intranet, and read-only on its extranet.
The implementation took four months, and Harrods hired Microsoft specialist ICS Solutions for the work. The retailer said the system offers “robust security” for regulatory compliance.
The intranet and extranet offer a custom site map, RSS aggregator, a telephone directory, and other functions. They also have a sliding news centrepiece and custom navigation bars. With “Wiki” like functionality, users can also create pages and share content.
