Allianz Cornhill Schemes has successfully completed its SOLAR migration project by migrating over 3.2 million policies, using hosted acquisition, rationalisation and analysis tools for associated data volumes.

Allianz Cornhill Schemes is part of Allianz Cornhill, one of the largest general insurers in the UK and part of the international financial services provider Allianz. The Schemes business provides consumers with extended warranty, payment protection and all risks insurance through its corporate partners including retailers, financial services providers and household goods manufacturers.

In four phases spanning an 18-month period, data analysis provider Kognitio helped Allianz Cornhill Schemes to migrate extended warranty insurance policies as part of a large project to implement a new insurance administration platform that would enable the company to maintain its business through the use of modern, efficient and flexible systems capable of effectively supporting diverse customer demands. In order to achieve this, Kognitio migrated policy data from an IBM DB2 / AS400 system to SOLAR, an Oracle-based application hosted on an HP Unix environment.

Tim Tresadern, IT manager at Allianz Cornhill Schemes said: “SOLAR is key to strengthening and extending our administrative capabilities. When it came to the policy migration, both the volume and complexity of the policies were critical factors for the business to think about. Each data element needed to be accurately moved across to ensure that the policies were correct and valid once migrated.”

Kognitio provided consultancy and support during the design and development phases of the project and worked closely with the staff at Allianz Cornhill Schemes to provide them with the necessary skills to easily operate Kognitio’s bespoke tools and methodology. Once the preparation work for each phase had been completed and tested, the migration in each case took less than a weekend, minimising potential disruption to the insurer’s business.

The vendor’s Data Factory Tool Kit (DFTK) and methodologies is application-independent and offered Allianz Cornhill a definitive advantage, similar to many other financial services organisations that often rely on heterogeneous environments.

“Kognitio ultimately de-risked the data migration element of the project, whilst the introduction of SOLAR has already enabled us to secure new business,” said Tresadern.
