Brocade has launched its HyperEdge Architecture to help enterprises and campus environments better handle cloud and mobile working.

Brocade said the HyperEdge Architecture, which was first mooted last year, would provide "unmatched levels of network agility and automation". It is designed to deliver an environment that can quickly and easily scale and respond to the demands of increased user mobility, "while delivering instant access to services and applications", claimed Brocade.

It is aimed at supporting mobile working, virtual desktop infrastructure and unified communications.

Brocade HyperEdge Architecture features include distributed services with the aim of delivering intelligence to all user and device ports at a "vastly reduced cost per port". Premium Brocade ICX campus switches can be added to existing Brocade ICX stacks in a HyperEdge Domain at any time to upgrade the service level of network infrastructure, and to provide investment protection, said Brocade.

And with consolidated management a single logical unit comprised of multiple devices within each HyperEdge Domain delivers faster and simpler configuration network management and maintenance updates, as a result of dynamic sharing of software images and network policies with fewer management touch points.

The wired Brocade ICX infrastructure supports collapsed aggregation and access domains, and the Brocade mobility products allow centralised wireless APs (access points) or controller-based management options.

With distributed access points forwarding mobile traffic is secured and directed at the network edge, not tunneled back to a central controller, thereby preventing controller bottlenecks to deliver higher performance and reliability, said Brocade.

New features have also been added to the Brocade Network Advisor management platform to improve troubleshooting.

Brocade HyperEdge Architecture distributed services, consolidated management and distributed AP forwarding features are available now with the latest releases of the Brocade FastIron 8.0 and WiNG 5.4.2 networking platforms. No additional licences are required to enable the services.
