The National Health Service (NHS) has announced Bolton will be the first test area for its centralised patient records system.

The Lancashire town will be the first of seven respective health trusts whose clinicians will, from this May, get to trial the national database that is a central plank of the multi-billion pound NHS National Programme for IT (NPfIT) modernisation programme.

Healthcare authorities are contacting 14,000 Bolton citizens to inform them of the entry of their contact details into the database and the addition of medical information, including allergies and prescription requirements.
