The PartyPoker website has fallen victim to a phishing attack inviting gamblers to log into their accounts via a bogus site.

The invitation appears as spam, warning of legal developments affecting online gamblers and links to a fake site to harvest user login and account details to transfer money or make unauthorised bets.

It makes reference to the recent US legislation banning internet gambling, “on the passing of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006”.

PartyPoker is the world’s most popular online gambling site. And security firm Websense said it is no surprise that increasingly financially motivated and organised cybercriminals have focused on such a lucrative target.
