Virgin Media has started rolling out 120Mbps broadband to its customers.

As part of the firm's 'double your speeds' programme, 100Mbps subscribers will now get 120Mbps – the fastest broadband available in the UK. Virgin Media said the upgrades will completed around mid-2013.

Jon James, executive director of broadband at Virgin Media said: "Virgin Media has led the greatest developments in broadband in the UK over the last decade and our 120Mb service continues to ensure that our consumers across the country get the very best that today’s technology offers."

Virgin Media confirmed that 40 percent of its network has been upgraded as part of the programme. The BT Infinity rival now offers 30Mb, 60Mb and 100Mb/120Mb.

The extra bandwidth will help users "take advantage of the latest entertainment services as well as making it easier for multiple users to get online at the same time".
