West Midlands Police has chosen Courion for deliver an identity and access management system for its secure data. The Courion deal marks the final phase of a five year, 13-project technology transformation as part of the force’s Gateway Programme.
The Gateway Programme is intended to ensure that access to information, buildings and systems is given to the right people at the right time.
The need for strong identity and access management is mandatory for access to national systems such as the Police National Database, which provides a consolidated pool of nationwide police information and intelligence.
Paul Williamson, programme manager for Gateway at West Midlands Police, said, “The aim of the project is to automate what has been a bureaucratic, slow, manual access management process.
"What won it for Courion was ease of implementation and simplicity, combined with the fact that it offers so much functionality behind the scenes. Many other systems we looked at were also costlier to support."
The roll-out of Courion’s Access Assurance Suite to all 15,000 West Midlands Police employees is due to be completed by the end of the year, enabling access certification and compliance management, role lifecycle management, user provisioning and password management.
