The NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT), has deployed online collaboration tool Citrix GoToMeeting to allow 6,000 staff on 100 sites keep in touch more easily.

The NHSBT handles the supply of blood and organs to the NHS, and its work varies from encouraging donors to providing expert advice to NHS organisations and Whitehall.

Mark Carter, Desktop Services Manager, NHSBT said, “Through online collaboration, we have significantly reduced staff travel which has in turn enhanced productivity across the organisation.

“Because GoToMeeting is easy to set up and so intuitive to use, take-up across NHSBT has been incredibly quick. Our training department rapidly saw the benefits in terms of cost-savings and productivity and are already planning to increase their usage in the future.”

The system allows NHSBT staff to meet online and share their computer screen with all participants in order to collaborate on documents, update projects and plan logistics.

The NHSBT is also using GoToMeeting to deliver mandatory staff training with the use of its Knowledge and Skills Framework online tool: e-KSF.

In the past these sessions were carried out in face-to-face settings, which required off-site meeting – with the consequent expenditure on travel, room bookings and refreshments.
