BT is returning to the university milk round circuit, looking for 133 recruits for its 2011 graduate scheme. For the first time, BT’s Global Services division will be recruiting 30 graduates across Europe, the Middle East, United States and Asia Pacific.
Due to “strong” demand for the scheme, graduates will be expected to have a 2:1 degree, with 320 UCAS points or the international equivalent, compared to 280 UCAS points last year. However, applicants with a 2:2 honours degree, but also a postgraduate qualification, can still apply.
BT denied media reports that said that it had closed its graduate recruitment programme ‘indefinitely’ last year.
“BT decided to suspend some of its campus graduate recruitment activity for 2009/2010 as it focused on finding alternative roles for employees who have recently been displaced. This was a short term decision and did not indicate a change in policy or direction. Graduates are, and always will be, a critical source of talent for BT,” the company said in a statement.
The graduate scheme lasts two years, and provides graduates with opportunities across all areas of BT’s business, with a focus on building their leadership abilities. Placements are available in business management, technology, human resources, procurement, law and marketing.
The recruitment drive will run until the end of December 2010, with graduates joining BT in September 2011. Ten graduates and 55 undergraduates joined BT this month following the company’s 2009/2010 recruitment programme. In 2008, BT took on 120 graduates.
