DataStax has announced a partner network programme with Accenture and Google which will driv ethe expansion of the Cassandra open source NoSQL database.

Apache-based Cassandra database technology is behind Netflix and eBay, two of the largest internet  brands which require massive transactional real time abilities. More than 20 companies in the Fortune 100 have also opted for Cassandra databases. CIO UK reported in October 2013 that Cassandra was also the choice for a number of start-up companies, including Spotify and Taxi app Hailo.

DataStax senior vice president for global business development, Dave Kloc, said: "The DataStax Partner Network will result in broader adoption of the open source Cassandra database, and better applications and services for customers."

The company particularly expects to see great take-up by organisations in the finance and banking sectors.

DataStax uses open source code to power online applications, and the company has cemented its collaborative relationship with professional services firm Accenture by becoming alliance partners.

Accenture Digital's global Big Data lead, Vincent Dell'Anno, said: "The alliance with DataStax allows Accenture to provide its clients with best-of-breed, real-time Big Data analytics capabilities, enabling them to drive business results from Big Data and compete on digital."

The Google Cloud Platform has also become a platinum member of the DataStax Partner Network.

Chris Rimer, the Google Cloud Platform head of partner business, said: "Modern online applications must be able to deploy to the cloud and through this collaboration, DataStax's Cassandra database customers can deploy successfully in Google Cloud Platform."

CIOs frustrated with Oracle and looking to reduce costs, increase flexibility are analysing the opportunities tools like DataStax offers. With Accenture and Google as partners, this could lead to increased adoption.
