People management is a key element to the daily role of being a CIO and team motivation requires a very different set of skills to implementing technology. CIOs may often have their roots in technology, but only those with good interpersonal skills will be able to deliver the complex array of change management, board level politics and negotiation skills. People are still one of the most valuable assets a CIO will be responsible for.
