Top European CIO’s book translated to English

Favourite read of European CIOs has been translated to provide an insight into IT industry

One of the most popular books amongst European CIOs is now available in English. IT's Hidden Face, written by Claude Roeltgen the CIO of one of Luxembourg's top banks has been a top read amongst CEOs, CIOs and government ministers across the continent.

IT's Hidden Face is a translation of Eine Million ode rein Jahr, which was first published in 2006 and provides an behind the scenes view of the IT industry from a European perspective. CIO issues covered include daily responsibilities of the CIO, management techniques, security and software instability.

Alignment between the IT strategy and team and the rest of the business is a key part of this book, which attempts to write about the topic in simple terms after the author found CEOs and organisations felt alienated by technology.

"All around us, there is an unknown, hidden world; it is so proximal, it keeps millions of people busy, but from the outside, it is totally mysterious," author Roeltgen said of IT. "This world is the engine rooms of Information Technology and of IT departments in companies. Surprisingly, this extraordinary exciting world hasn't issued any reports about its inner workings."

Roeltgen (pictured) is CIO at Banque LBLux, one of the leading banks in Luxembourg and has been a CIO for 20 years. He began his career as a programmer and progressed to become a project manager and onto CIO.

Roeltgen said his book was pitched at non-IT management to get a better understanding of how they can work with and communicate with IT professionals. For CIOs or aspiring CIOs he believes the book offers advice on how to communicate the "complexities of their responsibilities".
