Microsoft sacks CIO

Stuart Scott fired for 'violating company policies'

Microsoft has fired its chief information officer (CIO), Stuart Scott, saying he was let go after an investigation for violation of company policies.

Until a replacement for Scott is found, Shahla Aly, a general manager, and Alain Crozier, a corporate vice president, will take over his responsibilities, Microsoft said.

Scott joined Microsoft in July 2005 after spending 17 years at General Electric, where he also served as CIO. At Microsoft, he reported to Kevin Turner, chief operating officer.

Scott was initially hired in a somewhat novel arrangement: He shared the role of CIO with Ron Markezich. However, Markezich has since dropped his CIO title and taken on the position of vice president of managed solutions at Microsoft.
