Nationwide Building Society has handed its networks over to BT in a £160 million seven-year managed services agreement.
Nationwide is transferring all its voice and data networking infrastructure and third party network contracts and will transfer some 60 staff to BT.
The move follows the announcement in March that Nationwide was turning to SAP for a banking technology platform, as part of a £300 million business transformation programme.
Under the deal BT will consolidate the Nationwide networks onto the 21CN Global network to deliver converged voice and data services to the building society. BT will also provide improved facilities for Nationwide staff working remotely from head and branch offices.

BT said, “The new model will introduce a flexible commercial model providing Nationwide with cost predictability whilst based on industry best practice and a framework of service level agreements (SLAs) at a reduced overall total cost of ownership.”
Peter Stafford, Head of IT Infrastructure at Nationwide, said: “Nationwide’s growth in recent years has meant that our IT infrastructure has also had to evolve at an exponential rate to keep up with demand and we must now seek the most efficient and scalable infrastructure service possible to support this.”
