Fujitsu going green in reduced carbon plan

Worldwide push to reduce global carbon dioxide emissions by 15 million tonnes

From fiscal year 2009 up to fiscal 2012, the Fujitsu Group will pursue the company's target of reducing its global carbon dioxide emissions by more than 15 million tonnes.

The global expansion of Fujitsu's Green Policy Innovation is expected to help customers, and the public in general, substantially diminish their "environmental footprints".

To show its commitment to the global environment, Fujitsu established energy-efficient IT infrastructure that uses cutting-edge technology such as the gallium nitride high electron-mobility transistors (HEMT).

In its data centres in the United Kingdom, it has been using the latest energy-consumption simulation technology.

To minimise thermal currents in Fujitsu's data centres in Australia, the company installed high-density, hybrid cooling technology that uses recycled chilled water and spatial layout planning.

Data centres

The most advanced data centres in Japan use spot air-conditioning systems, thermofluid simulation, multi-point temperature monitoring using optical fibre, and a variety of other technologies. Among the latest technologies to be introduced is a large-scale, fine-grained environmental sensing system comprised of compact, energy-efficient temperature and air flow sensors linked through a proprietary ad-hoc networking technology.

In terms of providing advice to customers who are involved in environmental management, Fujitsu offers related consulting services in Japan, Australia and other countries.

Fujitsu wants its Green Policy Innovation to mark a significant step in the realisation of the group's medium-term environmental goal called Green Policy 2020, which will support the envisioned low-carbon society.

Global action

Fujitsu's initiative is consistent with the global call to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. At the recent Group of Eight Summit, world leaders agreed to share the goal of halving greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

Japanese company Fujitsu started its Green Policy Innovation programme as early as December 2007. In the first two years of the programme through fiscal 2008, Fujitsu reduced about 2.23 million tonnes of carbon dioxide.

5 steps to successful IT consolidation and virtualisation

There are many benefits associated with IT consolidation and virtualisation, but it can be a very challenging process. It is important to consider all components of an IT consolidation project before embarking on it.

Anatomy of insider risk

Learn the four steps to minimizing the risk from negligent insiders.

The foundation for wireless without compromise

In this white paper, we have discussed the three phases of WLAN architecture evolution i.e. WLAN for convenience (limited adoption), WLAN as the network of choice (instead of wires) and WLAN for business critical applications. We have also compared legacy microcell architectures to Meru’s Air Traffic Control™ architecture and provided guidance on selection of the right architecture.

Mobile and flexible working for efficiency and effectiveness

The technology of mobile and flexible working has much to offer, providing all that is needed for remote access, effective data sharing and the ability to work in a time efficient way from a variety of ‘desktop productivity’ endpoint devices.
