The Telegraph Media Group has become the first content provider in the UK for the new Google Android phones.
The first Android-based phones, which are slated to take on the popular Blackberry and the iPhone, went on sale yesterday in the US on the T-Mobile network. They will go on sale in the UK next week.
Under a new agreement, the Telegraph Media Group, which publishes the Daily Telegraph, the Sunday Telegraph and the Weekly Telegraph, has launched a new application to work on the Google Android operating platform.
The application will provide users with news and sports feeds, as well as travel and motoring information, and can be downloaded from the Android Marketplace.
In August, the Telegraph began offering free mobile content to 3G iPhone owners and users of other 3G and WAP-enabled handsets. Two months earlier it also launched PC desktop widgets for similar feeds.

Paul Cheesbrough, chief information officer at the Telegraph Media Group, said: “Mobile access to our content and products is a growing part of our offering, and Android provides us with a rich and innovative platform to reach our customers.”
Telegraph Media Group uses Google Apps for its desktop applications, and Cheesbrough has said the company favours the cloud computing model overall, particularly for journalists on the move.
