Intellect, the trade association for the UK's technology sector, has appointed Julian David (pictured) as its new director general.
He is replacing John Higgins, who has been director general at the organisation since it formed in 2002. Higgins is moving to Brussels to lead DigitalEurope, an association that represents the digital technology industry in Europe.
David has been involved in Intellect for a number of years, and is currently a member of the Intellect board and its public sector council. He has previously held senior roles at IBM.

He is also chair of the external advisory panel of the Masters in Information Leadership course at City University, London.
David will take up his role as director general on 19 March 2012.

"Intellect has a strong SME community and I will be ensuring that their voice is heard in government and that the great success stories from this community are fully recognised," David said.
