Container shipping firm deploys automated service management

One of the world's largest container shipping companies has deployed a new IT service management platform to ensure business continuity and help consolidate its global IT operations.

ZIM Integrated Shipping Services is using BMC Software to implement a new command and control centre that includes automated IT service management (ITSM) capabilities.

ZIM's global market includes ports-of-call in more than 120 countries. However, ZIM said its legacy IT platform was "dated, disparate and frequently unable to manage its operational requirements".

“We selected this platform as part of our strategy to ensure business continuity and consolidate our IT centres globally,” said David Avni, CIO of ZIM.

ZIM said it required increased availability of business services, a complete consolidated view into IT services and faster problem resolution, all from one unified platform.

Avni said he was aiming for increased operational efficiency and productivity through automating certain tasks across applications, consoles, audits, logins and data centres.

Matrix, an IT services firm in Israel and a strategic partner to BMC, is assisting with the implementation.

Earlier this year it was announced that international car rental group Enterprise Holdings was migrating to cloud-based IT service management to help run its business. Enterprise, which runs the Enterprise Rent-A-Car, National Car Rental and Alamo Rent A Car brands, brought in ServiceNow to automate its enterprise IT operations and improve end-user support.
