Department store retailer Debenhams has deployed an archive management system to cope with a 200 per cent annual increase in emails.
As a result, Debenhams email storage requirements have been reduced by half.
The increase in email traffic has been attributed to the rise in online orders and associated customer communications. In April, the retailer pledged to quadrupal online sales.
The retailer has bought a system from Quest Software which captures, preserves and searches for data amongst the volumes of email it receives. During key sales promotions, the system has helped the retailer process an additional 500,000 emails.
In a statement, Debenhams IT support manager Chris Lacey said: Debenhams continually strives to deliver the best possible service to our customers and to support this, it is imperative that we have a robust email archiving solution in place, particularly as our customer data grows. [The system] has significantly reduced our storage costs and is another step towards PCI DSS compliancy.”
