Karen McElhatton has been appointed CIO at automative manufacturing and technology company McLaren Group.

Previously Chief Digital Officer at JAB Luxury, the group overseeing luxury brands including Jimmy Choo, Bally and Belstaff, McElhatton has held senior IT positions at Procter & Gamble and TJX International.

New Zealander McElhatton is tasked with continuing the digital transformation of McLaren across its diverse range of businesses with a focus on the delivery of data and digital services, in association with its technology partners.

"I'm thrilled to be joining McLaren at a time when each of our businesses is building innovative, ambitious and exciting plans for the future," she said. "I'm looking forward to working with the excellent technology professionals we have at McLaren, and collaborating with our strategic partners to deliver the high-performance technology experiences our colleagues, customers and fans across the world expect from us."

Surrey-based McLaren Group comprises McLaren Racing, premium sports car company McLaren Automotive, and McLaren Applied Technologies - a technology and innovation business.

McLaren Group Chief Operating Officer Jonathan Neale said that IT was at the heart of all three of McLaren's businesses, and that McElhatton would be crucial in spearheading new emerging technologies.

"Karen's appointment will ensure our IT provision is perfectly equipped to handle the evolution and development of the group's three core businesses, both strategically and technologically," he said.

"McLaren puts technology and IT at the core of its operation as a force multiplier in a high-performance culture. The scope of Karen's role will ensure we are embracing and developing new and existing technologies while working with our partners and suppliers to ensure our IT discipline remains at a world-class level."

Former CIO Craig Charlton joined FTSE 100-listed catering services company Compass Group at the start of 2018.
