West Sussex County Council is one year through a two year second review of its services. The business transformation review is being carried out by Capgemini, who won a tendering process and aims to remodel West Sussex County Council into a customer focussed organisation that can deliver more of its services through IT.

Mark Hammond, chief executive at West Sussex County Council said the authority has a budget of £1 billion, and a government grant of £7 million, but demands of between £30 and £40 million, and thus needs to make savings.

This is the second review that West Sussex County Council has implemented, a previous review found savings of £50 million.
West Sussex County Council has made significant investments into its IT in recent years, upgrading its SAP ECC 6 and Lagan 6 systems, as well as Lotus Notes and social care system upgrades. The council ditched IBM Websphere and has been busy implementing support for remote working.
