IT estate and or number of log on accounts under the control of the IT leader: IT is essential; we have about 350 logins, plus about 200 more for external organisations that we provide an IT service to.

Level of the workforce that relies on technology to carry out their tasks: Everyone in the organisation uses technology

IT staff currently employed: Collaboration tools are very important for us, as is data warehousing

IT staff currently employed: 25, with a handful of contractors helping us with some projects

Split between in-house/outsourced staff: 80 per cent in house

IT management team and reporting structure:  Direct reports are Head of IT Operations, which is primarily an inward facing role and Head of Systems who has close links with the business. The project managers report to me also, and they also work closely with the with key business stakeholders.

Primary technology platforms at the organisation: Microsoft, HP and Cisco

Significant strategic technology deals been struck in the last 12 months: No, but organisational changes which are planned for Q2 this year are likely to result in new strategic partnerships with suppliers

Strategic aim of the CIO and IT operations for the next financial year: To support organisational transformation and to drive down costs by introducing more sophisticated collaboration tools

Technologies considered by the leader to offer their organisation potential: Virtualisation is very important at the moment, and cloud will become increasingly so over the next few years. There have been some concerns about the security of cloud, but these are being overcome as the cloud technology market matures.

How do you see technology transforming your organisation in the near future?
A much greater emphasis on analytics, and information sharing across partner organisations.
