For all the hype around an influx of emerging edge technologies impacting the enterprise, ERP is still the central nervous system and platform of many businesses. But tackling ERP modernisation programmes can make or break a CIO, enterprise architects and an IT function.

Join your peers at this exclusive CIO UK roundtable dinner, hosted with partners Dell Boomi, to discuss the approaches organisations are taking to ERP modernisation as they seek to develop the platform for a digital business - while tackling technical debt and reducing IT costs to invest in value-add, innovation projects.

You will get the chance to hear from your fellow senior IT professionals about their biggest challenges to ERP modernisation initiatives, and importantly how they have tackled them by securing executive support for such projects, and how CIOs have gone about engaging with business colleagues to ensure success.

With a current focus in CIO priorities on revenue-driving digital initiatives and trying to move budgets to innovation agendas, is it now the case that the real value of ERP modernisation is so IT functions can improve business processes while refocusing efforts elsewhere?

We will also discuss the current state of the ERP landscape, where ERP fits in IT strategies, and revisit a six-year-old prediction. It was 2013 when Gartner coined the term "Postmodern ERP", whereby the analyst and consulting firm expected a period in which CIOs and their IT functions would replace legacy, monolithic and highly customised ERP suites with a hybrid approach of cloud-based and on-prem business applications, which would be highly specialised or commoditised, off-the-shelf products - and all points in between.

Topics to be discussed include:

  • To what extent ERP modernisation is the platform for an integrated, digital business
  • The biggest challenges to ERP modernisation, and how to tackle them
  • How ERP modernisation can improve IT and business alignment
  • How much customisation is right in an ERP modernisation?
  • Reducing costs and tackling technical debt to free up resources to focus on value-add, innovation IT - is this the real boon of fixing your ERP?
  • Getting line of business and executive support for ERP modernisation projects
  • ERP integration and whether the concept of “Postmodern ERP” rings true for your business technology strategy
