Finance service specialists are in demand as the number of IT jobs leapt last quarter. Vacancies rose by almost 50 percent compared with the previous three months of 2006, according to Computer People research.
The IT recruitment firm tracks advertisements and employer activities. And its Q2 report finds 7,246 new jobs, compared to less than 5,000 in Q1 2006.
This growth was not through natural attrition – 60% of full-time roles on offer were new as opposed to replacements – but driven by finance, defence and public sector demand.
Jane Binner, Computer People associate director said: “One financial company is looking for 600 new staff.” Java and .Net specialists are currently most difficult to recruit, she added.
