Gatwick Airport has unveiled details of a framework agreement that covers a vast variety of IT operational services, set to be worth up to £73 million. 

An online tender outlines 11 different lots that suppliers will be able to bid for, each of which will last for a total of four years. 

One of the highest valued lots covers hosting, management, support and maintenance of Gatwick’s entire core infrastructure. It currently has more than 900 servers, based on a virtualised Unix and Wintel estate, as well as over 200 storage devices. 

This section of the deal is worth up to £12 million and will require round-the-clock support and on-site presence from the chosen supplier. 

Only one other lot could reach £12 million in value, which is where Gatwick requires a supplier to implement, manage and support cabling for fibre, telephony and data networks within the airport’s site. 

Gatwick is also looking at cloud-based options for its web services, which include, the company’s intranet and also extranet services. 

The airport currently has 370 users of an SAP ERP system, which is used for financial and procurement services, and is seeking a partner to manage, maintain and support it for up to £5 million for the four year period. 

The remainder of the contract value is made up of lots detailing; an IT service desk for all Gatwick Airport users, a service management function; support and development for business applications; telecoms services; end-user computing management; and further purchasing of IT products, such as additional hardware, software and licences. 

Parties interested in participating in the tender process have until 12 April to submit requests to Gatwick. 

The airport BAA sold Gatwick, the UK’s second largest airport, to investment fund Global Infrastructure Partners for £1.5 billion in December 2009.
