An MP on the influential Public Accounts Committee has demanded the government explain the costs of CSC’s contract with the NHS.

Richard Bacon MP yesterday questioned Department of Health chief information officer Christine Connelly, as the DH attempts to negotiate a Memorandum of Understanding with the supplier. The meeting was reported in Tony Collins' blog.

Bacon has raised concerns that the Department is so anxious to keep CSC in the NHS National Programme for IT that it will pay for system deployments that trusts have no intention of installing.

Days ago, Bacon also raised queries that the other main supplier, BT, is being paid an extra £546 million for staying on the programme. He branded the money “an extraordinarily large sum for a comparatively small amount of activity”.
