The London 2012 Olympics and Paralympic Games has chosen BT as its communications services provider, to support a £2bn event fit for the digital age.

As official partner, BT will provide and manage all communications services required to stage the games, including voice and data networks, land lines, internet access and communications services for athletes, media and staff across all venues.

Sebastian Coe, chairman of theLondon 2012 organising committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG), said the Olympics will be a digital event and BT has a key role to play in creating it.

"We have a wonderful opportunity to stage a 'Digital Games' in 2012 and BT will be integral in helping us do that," he said.

"Technology and communication is going to be a vast operation, starting now and taking us all the way through to games-time."

The contract also allows BT exclusive marketing and usage rights to the London 2012 logo within its sector. BT will also be a 'Sustainability Partner' and will work with the committee to build a sustainable Olympic Games and Paralympic Games.

BT joins four other tier one partners (Lloyds TSB, EDF Energy, Adidas and British Airways) and a two tier supporter (Deloitte) in sponsoring the games,.
