The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and LogicaCMG have signed an £11.5-million partnership agreement to launch a brand new web presence.

The five-year deal will see LogicaCMG enable the roll out of the new site to over 200 embassies, consulates, and high commissions across the globe for a 2008 go-live date.

It will see LogicaCMG working with the FCO to replace its current web platform and establish a new web presence to meet the growing needs of the the deparment's target audiences, and which handles up to 24 million visitors per year. At peak demand times, such as around the Asian tsunami disaster in 2004, site traffic can increase five-fold.

The outsourcer will manage delivery subcontractors including XMLondon for web design, Verizon for hosting support and Mediasurface for web content management. And its consultancy will aim to increase visitor up-take and usability, minimise security risks to the site and ensure that the website can meet high demand peaks.
