Carpetright has extended its IT services deal with Fujitsu for three years, with the outsourcer providing support, maintenance and IT hardware for 586 stores across the UK and the Republic of Ireland.

Fujitsu was awarded an original contract in 2005, for the supply, install and maintenance of in-store hardware, working with a supplier of Microsoft-based point-of-sale (POS) systems.

Fujitsu said the extended agreement would deliver cost savings through the use of its "Lean, Sense and Respond methodologies". The value of the contract extension has not been disclosed by either side.

The original system deployed in 2005 moved the Carpetright business on from a largely manual and heavy administrative ordering and stock control system, to one where there is complete store and central HQ visibility of stock and ordering at any point in the process.

Ian Woosey, group IT and e-commerce director at Carpetright, said: "The last six years have marked a significant change in the way the company operates day to day in store and with customers.

"The overhaul of the store IT system has brought the business bang up to date and has meant a much more efficient and streamlined operating model - something that was critical as the company made key acquisitions, such as Sleepright, to expand the business."

A £4.7 million rollout of Microsoft Dynamics Nav software helped the flooring retailer improve its supply chain.

The software, formerly called Microsoft Navision, integrates with an existing SAP platform to manage in-store customer orders, quotes, stock management and electronic point of sale offers.
