Countrywide, the UK’s largest property services company, has signed a seven-year contract with CGI Group to upgrade and improve its technology and telephony platforms.

Canada-based CGI is due to complete its acquisition of UK-based Logica in the next few days.

Under the £90 million contract, CGI will provide IT services to Countrywide’s 10,000 employees across the UK. CGI will consolidate and refresh the company’s existing IT systems, with work including virtualising desktops and providing voice-over-IP (VoIP) to all 1,300 offices.

Ninety Countrywide staff will TUPE across to CGI as part of the deal, according to analyst firm TechMarketView.

“This is, I guess, one of the increasingly rare ‘first generation’ major outsourcing deals left to grab,” said Anthony Miller, managing partner at TechMarketView.

“I was speaking with the UK head of a major player in the IT services market yesterday and there was some surprise at the news as CGI is rarely seen in combat on our shores. That will all change of course with Logica under its belt, but meanwhile, this deal looks like a real left-fielder.”
