The Metropolitan Police has renewed a payroll and pensions administration outsourcing deal with Logica.

The £10 million, three year deal, extends an original contract signed in 2005. The deal covers both the Met Police Service and the Authority, which supervises the force and its Commissioner.

Under the renewal, services will be extended to cover electronic payslips, overtime and expenses, in addition to the managed payroll and pensions administration already covered.

The Metropolitan Police will also attempt to increase staff usage of its self-service payroll and pensions systems.

In separate news, in May it was reported that a human resources system supplied to the force by Steria was “in crisis”, as the implementation was estimated to be at least £10 million over budget at £48 million. The system is understood to operate separately from  Logica’s payroll and pensions outsourcing arrangement.

The Steria-implemented system had been intended to save £15 million annually in office costs, processing wages, sick leave and holidays for the force’s 52,000 staff. It is a key part of a £366 million efficiency programme.

A week ago, the SAP-based Metropolitan Police outlined its IT strategy, explaining that it will develop and implement its Enterprise Architecture and ITIL strategy in a bid to improve efficiency.
