The Highways Agency has outlined plans to use technology to launch new services to road users.

The transport management body said new technology and traffic management systems would have a large role to play in its plans to make road travel easier and safer during the next year.

Archie Robertson, the Highways Agency chief executive said: "We aim to deliver real-time information about traffic conditions in a range of formats to meet individual needs, improve existing services and develop new ones like the new travel information radio service."

It will also make real time traffic information available via CCTV feeds on the agency’s website, as well as roadside messages on digital motorway displays to indicate real-time journey times.

Its will also boost its management systems to better coordinate strategic responses and plans to delays caused by road works or incidents.
