United Utilities Water (UUW) has chosen incumbent network services operator to take its telecommunications mobile in a £13.6 million deal.
The UK’s largest operator of water and waste water assets awarded the contract after competitive tender, extending a five-year relationship with the telecommunication services company.
As part of the contract, it will provide voice, telemetry, outsourced managed telecommunication systems and mobile voice and data services to UUW, with more than 6,000 voice extensions across 50 sites. The use of mobile data and Blackberry devices are designed to offer UUW office level productivity while staff are travelling or at a customer’s site.
THUS said its next-generation network (NGN) infrastructure will provide UUW with a strong network coverage and direct connection into key operational sites, which are fundamental requirements for UUW. The deal will also provide UUW with a single point of contact for all its communications needs for full systems management and quick resolution of day-to-day issues.
Mike Naden, business information systems services director at United Utilities Water said: “Reliability is fundamental to our operations and the telecommunications infrastructure is key to our overall service delivery. As our business grows and develops it is essential that our network has the capacity to deliver more advanced services in the future. The NGN solution from THUS ensures that we have the capability to do this.”
