Peter Gilroy, Kent County Council's Chief Executive, was today's first speaker on the subject of "e-care, technology and change". I was a little irritated at his reference to "a London borough" that was working with them. Kent is a leader in TeleCare developments, and Newham is an acknowledged leader in Assistive Technology developments.
We are now both working, together with Cornwall County Council in a major Department of Health funded TeleCare project. Peter won a lot of plaudits for his presentation – especially, I think, for being a CEO who seems to have truly understood and engaged with the IT's transformational potential. Interesting, 'though, that Kent banned FaceBook!
I spent the rest of the morning and early afternoon touring the Exhibition, before heading-off for the Airport.
The Graham Williamson Challenge presentation preceded lunch. This is a travel award to enable someone who is starting-out in IT to broaden their understanding and knowledge of IT in the public sector. Well done to our own Craig Bates, who was the runner-up.
